OBITUARY 1929
Thomas J. Short was born in Vermillion County, Indiana, April 19, 1855 and died at Seibert, Colorado on Jan. 25, 1929 at the age of 73 years, 9 months and 5 days. His family moved to Iroquois county and there Mr. Short was educated and on March 13, 1878 was united in marriage to Clara A. Henry, also of the Iroquois country. In 1891 Mr. and Mrs. Short moved to Washington county, Kansas, where they resided until 1913 when they came to Colorado and filed on their homestead on which they have lived since and at which place Mr. Short passed away in the Second Central neighborhood.

To this happy union were born nine children, one of whom died in infancy and Alice, is the deceased wife of Odbert Martin. Mrs. Maude Lowe of Denver is a daughter and the other six children are of the Seibert territory and are: Earl M. of the Seibert Equity managership; Harry T., also of Seibert; Joseph L., Ben H., Schuyler and Mrs. Vern Livingston, all on farms in the Rock Cliff district. There are 33 grandchildren and some great grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Short celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last March and kept open house to their many friends and neighbors. Mr. Short having always been a farmer was one of the most successful of farmers and had a well improved and successfully operated farm. His pleasure was in his fellow man so he was a kind community figure, beloved and respected by all his neighbors and acquaintances.

The funeral services were held from the Seibert community church on Sunday, January 27, with Rev. A. Moore of Colorado Springs officiating. Rev. Moore was a personal friend of the deceased and his family. Music was nicely furnished by Mrs. John Schekel, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Monk and M.H. Brown in a quartette and Mrs. V.L. Simpson at the piano. The five sons and Odbert Martin acted as the pallbearers. Undertaker Hamer Shaw served in that capacity with his successor Paul Andre.

Interment was at the Seibert cemetery and although the day was took about forty cars to take the many friends out. The church had been packed and several could not get places inside. The out-of-town attendants at the funeral were: William Deegan of Fairbury, Nebraska; Mr. and Mrs. Ross Lowe of Denver; and Earl Deegan; C.H. Coonrod, Arthur Lowe and H.H. Henry, all of Mahaska Kansas. The settler joins the entire community in extending sympathy to the bereaved family and congratulating them on having had the advantage of such a long and satisfactory companionship.
