ARTICLE - MAHASKA LEADER OCT. 21, 1910 Reunion of Old Friends
The beautiful country home of Mrs. R. K. Henry and family was the scene of a most happy gathering Sunday, Oct. 16, 1910, when in honor of Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Stimpson, of Milford, Ill., who are visiting relatives and friends in this community, a reunion of former residents of Iroquois County, Illinois was held.

There were seventy-two present: Mrs. R.K. Henry and son, Harry, Mrs. Etta Taylor and son, Archie, Mr. and Mrs. Thos. F. Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. O.W. Blakesley and family, Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Coonrod and family, Mr. and Mrs. C.H. Coonrod and family, Mr. and Mrs. A.B. Coonrod and family, Walter Coonrod and wife, Mr. and Mrs. T.J. Short and family, Mrs. John Denton and son T.P.Denton, Mr. and Mrs. John Deegan and family, Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Deegan and little son, Mr. and Mrs. E.E. Deegan and children, Misses Mary Kerr, Janet Armstrong and Beulah Summers and John Kerr and Frank Van Waning, all of Mahaska and vicinity, and Mr. Riley Pearman and wife and Grant Willoughby Jr., of Fairbury, Nebr., Scott Willoughby and wife and Byron Simpkins, wife and daughter, Belva, of Reynolds, Nebr., Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Blakesley, of Jennings, Kans., and Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Stimpson of Milford, Ill.

All of the older members of these families with the exception of Mr. and Mrs. Taylor and Mr. Denton having been residents of the same community in Iroquois County in their youth; and now, after many years were reunited. To an onlooker it was interesting to watch the meeting of these old time associates, some of whom had not met for twenty-five or more years, as one after another recognized familiar features, and some with difficulty recalled a face almost banished from memory by the long separation. The warm greetings and hearty handshakes were pleasant to observe.

When all had arrived preparations were soon under way for a big dinner. Tables were arranged under the trees on the lawn, where the leaf strewn carpet of grass and the warm October sun made a most pleasant dining spot. While the ladies busied themselves in spreading the tempting meal on the tables the gentlemen repaired to the orchard and soon returned with brimming pails of cider which were placed at the convenience of the guests during the day.

Immediately after dinner the crowd was grouped on the lawn and photographed by Frank VanWaning who was present with his camera, after which they dispersed and the young folks enjoyed games, whole chatting of old times passed the time pleasantly for the older ones. It was good to see the pleasure of Grandpa and Grandma Taylor and Grandma Henry when they were taken for a spin in an auto by Ray Blakesley. Music also added to the enjoyment of the day. While Miss Lula Deegan presided at the piano a chorus of young voices rendered several familiar selections.

As the sun began to lower in the west good byes were said and all departed for their several homes after a day of unmarred pleasure always to be remembered by each and every one as one of the very brightest of the swiftly passing days.

If you have come to my website via Ancestry: Several years ago the genealogy giant Ancestry absorbed the genealogy websites of Rootsweb along with personal databases posted at Rootsweb's WorldConnect Project that included a large database of my own family information. I started using Rootsweb in 2000 and they gave us the capability to add, remove, and update our information at anytime and I used these options frequently to post correct and current data. Presently (2006) I am told by Ancestry that we cannot maintain our own databases, we cannot even remove them. If you find information at Ancestry with my name attached please search my website for current information, the databases posted at Ancestry contain inaccurate information. - Karen Rowe.
