The native costume of Mrs. Poehler is called the Bueckeburger Tracht. Characteristic is the Red coat (so Schaumburg-Lippe is named as the land of the Red coats), ruches at the arms and a cap with pearls. In Schaumburg-Lippe all women and female children wear this Tracht, when they lived in a village. After 1920/1925 the young girls took wore present-day clothes.

Frederick Ernest Ludwig Poehler came to America on the ship New York from Hamburg and Southampton to New York City, NY. It arrived July 5, 1864. The family lived in Illinois the first 3 years.

OBITUARY - FREDERICK ERNEST LUDWIG POEHLER
Frederick Ernest Ludwig Poehler was born April 15, 1835 in the German territory of Schaumberg-Lippe, in the village of Levesen, but baptized and confirmed in Oberkirchen. His father's name was Ernest and his mother's Christine. After his confirmation he worked on the farm for 7 years, from his 14th to his 21st year, and then he served his country in the army for three years.

In the year 1864 our departed brother came to America and in the following year he was married to Miss Caroline Mueller. God blessed this union with 11 children, three of whom were summoned into eternity before their parents. For the first three years the deceased lived in Illinois. After that time he made his permanent abode in Iowa. On November 2nd, 1920 his life companion was taken from him by death and since then he had his home with his son, William. He was one of the founders of the Buck Creek congregation and has been an active member of it for over 50 years.

Our deceased brother had a strong and healthy constitution, but when old age drew near the inconveniences of life made themselves felt to him. Since the latter part of February, of this year, he had to stay in bed most of the time. He was always glad when his pastor visited him and he listened to the comforts and admonitions of God's word.

Although his end could be expected any day, yet it came upon him suddenly. On Tuesday, October 25th, at 6:15 p.m. the Lord called him from this vale of sorrow to his reward in heaven. His age was 92 years, 6 months and 10 days. May he rest in peace and the eternal light shine upon him.

The bereaved mourners are: Fritz Poehler, in Sumner, Ia; Wilhelmine Buenzow, also in Sumner, Ia; Emma, Mrs. W. Judisch, in Montana; Mathilda, Mrs. Albert Kent, in Oelwein; Louise, Mrs. Wm. Buige(Beu), in Sumner, Ia; Bertha, Mrs. John Nolte, living on the farm; Martha, Mrs. Ed Heinemann, also on the farm, and William, with whom the father had his home. Besides there are 41 grandchildren and a large number of friends and acquaintances.

OBITUARY - BERTHA POEHLER NOLTE
Mrs John Nolte, 75, of Readlyn, Ia, died at 3 a.m. Wednesday at the Sumner Community Hospital from complications received when she broke a hip in a fall at her home three years ago. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Matthias funeral home, Denver, Ia and at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Churck, Readlyn, Ia. Burial will be in the St Johns Cemetery-Buck Creek.

Mrs. Nolte, the former Bertha Poehler, was survived by three daughters, Mrs. Clarence Spier and Mrs. William Fasse, both of Waverly, Ia; and Mrs. Melvin Warneke of Readlyn, Ia.; three sons, Fred, Oscar and Eldo, all of Readlyn, Ia.; three sisters, Mrs. Emma Judisch of Conrad, Montana; Mrs. Lizzie Beu of Sumner, Ia; and Mrs. Tillie Kent of Cedar Rapids, Ia; one brother, William Poehler of Readlyn; 19 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Nolte and an infant son; one daughter, Mrs. Elmer Tiedt; one brother, Fred, and four sisters, Mrs. Minnie Buenzow, Mrs. Caroline Buenzow, Mrs. Ida Beu and Mrs. Martha Neiemann.

We wish to sincerely thank all our relatives and friends for cards, visits, kindnesses and lovely flowers during our mother's long stay at Community hospital in Sumner, Ia, and also our sincere thanks for the cards of sympathy at the time of our mother's passing away. Special thanks to Rev. E. Jacobs for all his prayers, and to all doctors, nurses, and nurses aids who helped care for her. The family of Mrs. Bertha Nolte.
