Obituary

Old Resident Passes Away - Mrs. Christ Oltrogge Dies at her Home in Palatine in her 88th year. Miss Mary Senne was born in Ludersfeld, Germany, Jan. 13, 1831 and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henry Reese, Palatine, Illinois, March 4, 1918, aged 87 years, 1 month, 20 days.

She came to America in 1856 in a sailing vessel which took 14 weeks to make the trip across the ocean. She settled in Chicago where a year later she married Mr. Christopher Oltrogge of her home town in Germany. Seven children blessed this union; all of whom are living but one daughter, Marie, who died in 1890. The family was brought up on the Oltrogge farm 3 miles southwest of Arlington Heights, Illinois, which is now occupied by their son, Henry. Her husband died Oct 14, 1889. Mrs. Oltrogge has made her home with her daughter, Sophia, where, surrounded by her grandchildren she passed happily nearly a quarter of a century. Although troubled with rheumatism many years, she has enjoyed good health until the day of death. Sunday she spent as usual with the family, but was reticent about retiring, apparently desiring to remain with the family as long as possible.

At 2 o'clock Monday morning her daughter heard an unusual sound and discovered her mother with a paralytic stroke. The doctor was called but nothing could be done and she passed away at 8 o'clock. The funeral took place from the Palatine Lutheran church Thursday, March 7, Rev. Poellot officiating. Interment in the family lot at the St. Peter's Lutheran cemetery, Arlington Heights, Illinois.

There remain to mourn their loss, two sons, Henry of Arlington Heights, Fred C. of Tripoli, Iowa; four daughters, Mrs. Christ Lutter of Tripoli, Iowa, Mrs. Lena Ziemke and Mrs. Anna Paschke of Chicago, Illinois and Mrs. Sophia Reese of Palatine, 19 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, also a brother, Christoph Senne at Tripoli, Iowa. --------- Card of Thanks We desire to express our thanks for the kindness of neighbors and friends since the death of our mother especially those who furnished carriages for the funeral. Mrs. Henry Reese, brothers and sisters.

The following is an obituary on Engel Maria's brother - Jan 2. 1929 - Tripoli Leader newspaper
Death Summons Chris H. Senne Died Sunday at His Home in This City - Funeral Services Thursday Chris H. Senne, 82, one of Tripoli's, Ia oldest residents, died at his home in this city Sunday, December 30. Death was caused by pneumonia which was only of a few days duration.

H.H.C. Senne was born in Ludersfeld, Schaumburg-Lippe, Germany, on February 28, 1846. His mother died when he was just a youth, and a few years later his father died. Following his mother's death, the father married again and the boy lived with his step-mother until of age. She had him confirmed and as a young man he learned the carpenter trade.

At the age of 21 he donned the king's blue coat, serving through the Franco-German war in 1870 and 1871. In 1873 he left his native land, migrated to America and settled in Maxfield Township. Here he followed his trade that he had been taught in the old country, that of an expert carpenter and joiner.

He was married to Miss Mina Schoernberg in 1882, and to this union four children were born, three daughters and one son. The three daughters preceded the parents in death. Soon after moving to Tripoli, Ia on December 6, 1889, Mrs. Senne died, and since that time Mr. Senne has lived alone in the home on south Main street.

For a man of his age, Mr. Senne enjoyed comparatively good health previous to his death. Only a few days ago he contracted a cold which developed into pneumonia and the end came quickly. One son, John H., with his wife and three children survive the departed. Funeral services will be held at the St. Peter's Evangelical church Thursday morning at 11:45, Rev. K.K. Koehler, officiating. Burial will be made in the Evangelical cemetery.

If you have come to my website via Ancestry: Several years ago the genealogy giant Ancestry absorbed the genealogy websites of Rootsweb along with personal databases posted at Rootsweb's WorldConnect Project that included a large database of my own family information. I started using Rootsweb in 2000 and they gave us the capability to add, remove, and update our information at anytime and I used these options frequently to post correct and current data. Presently (2006) I am told by Ancestry that we cannot maintain our own databases, we cannot even remove them. If you find information at Ancestry with my name attached please search my website for current information, the databases posted at Ancestry contain inaccurate information. - Karen Rowe.
