CHRISTOPH LUTTER - Obituary from the Waverly Phoenix
Father Christoph Lutter Carl Ludwig Christoph Lutter was born as the eighth child of Mr. Karl Friedrich Julius Lutter and Engel Maria Dorothea born Wilharm in Probsthagen, Schaumburg-Lippe, Germany, on November 19, 1843 and was baptized and later confirmed there in the Lutheran church. As a servant in search of a job, he came in October 1865 to America-To Elk Grove, Illinois. He met his first wife, Sophie Senne, there, and they were married in October 1865. This marriage produced three children who died at a young age. After four years of marriage, his first wife died. After a few years, he married his second wife, Engel Dressler, on October 13, 1872. Both were living then in Plumgrove, Illinois, but in 1875, they moved to Maxfield Township in Bremer County. In 1901 they left the farm and moved to Tripoli, Iowa, where they stayed until 1912, when they moved to a farm that had been bought by one of their sons-in-law, Hermann Peters. When their grandchild Arthur Peters married and took over this farm, the two old people moved to Readlyn, Iowa, where they were near their friends and the cemetery where he wished to be buried. He was one of the founders of the church here and a member for a long time.

He has suffered for 10 years on asthma and weak lungs, so that he had to stay in the house most of the time in winter. Recently, he had become weak enough to cause concern. It was obvious that the end was near. He died last Friday morning about 11:00 in the presence of his true wife and his two children, Mrs. Louise Peters, wife of Mr. Hermann Peters, and Mrs. Bertha Ganske, wife of Mr. Johann Ganske. he was 73 years, 7 months and 23 days old. In addition to the above he leaves eight grandchildren and one great grandchild, as well as one half brother and one half sister.

May he rest in peace and God watch over him for eternity. The funeral was on Monday afternoon at 1:00 in the house, with Pastor M. Jahr officiating. Burial was in the St. Matthaeus Cemetery in Readlyn, Iowa. Funeral text was Psalms 8, 5 and 6.

She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dressler. At an early age she came with her parents to America, settling in Baltimore, Maryland. A year later the family moved to Arlington Heights, Illinois. She was confirmed April 6, 1886. On October 13, 1872, she was married to Carl Ludwig Christopher Lutter. The couple moved to a farm in Fremont township. In 1901 they came to Tripoli, Iowa and after a few years here they moved to Readlyn. Mr. Lutter died January 12, 1917 and since that time Mrs. Lutter lived with her children.

Surviving her are two daughters, (Louise) Mrs. Herman Peters, (Bertha) Mrs. John Ganske, both of Readlyn; eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; two brothers and three sisters, living in Chicago. If you have come to my website via Ancestry: Several years ago the genealogy giant Ancestry absorbed the genealogy websites of Rootsweb along with personal databases posted at Rootsweb's WorldConnect Project that included a large database of my own family information. I started using Rootsweb in 2000 and they gave us the capability to add, remove, and update our information at anytime and I used these options frequently to post correct and current data. Presently (2006) I am told by Ancestry that we cannot maintain our own databases, we cannot even remove them. If you find information at Ancestry with my name attached please search my website for current information, the databases posted at Ancestry contain inaccurate information. - Karen Rowe.
