Obituary - The Appleton Press August 22, 1952
Wilhelm Harste Dies; Resident 53 years
Funeral services were conducted at Zion Lutheran church Aug. 18 for Wilhelm Harste, age 79, who died Aug. 15 at his home. Rev. E. A. Klemp officiated at the services.Pallbearers were Christ Paul, Henry Grages, Ernest Arndt, John Schreck, Carl Heinecke and Christ Wilkening. Interment was made in the Appleton cemetery.

Wilhelm Ernst Henry Harste was born Oct. 5 1872, the son of Fritz and Dorothea Harste at Eagle Lake, Ill. He was baptized by Rev. Nuoffer and confirmed by Rev. Carl Brauer. He was united in marriage to Louise Oberheide on Oct. 29, 1899. Three years ago they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Mr. Harste spent his youth in Illinois and shortly following his marriage they moved to a farm north of Appleton where they lived for 28 years. Since then they lived in Appleton, residing in the county for a total of 53 years. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran church of Shible and an elder for many years. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church for the past 24 years and served as secretary of the Shible Telephone Company for 30 years. Surviving are his wife, two sons, Karl and Wm. Jr., living north of Appleton, seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Lene Schweer, of Crete, Ill., and Miss Anna Harste of Chicago, Ill., one brother Herman, of Newhall, Ia. Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Attending the services from a distance were Wilmer Schweer and Paul Harste of Crete, Ill., and Mrs. Ernest Featherson of Calu__t, Ia.
