Carl Stier and Louise Mass' daughters immigrated to Cook/Will Co., IL. Wilhelm Maass settled at Grant Park, Kankakee Co., IL. There have been many coincidences in the families.

Emilie Hamann married Wilhelm Carl Maass on 21 May 1868 in Crete, IL. It supposedly was the first marriage conducted at St. Peter's, but St. Peter's congregation was first at Crete and then moved to Grant Park. Wilhelm came on the ship Borussia from Hamburg and Southampton to New York City on 22 May 1863. This information is found in the Germans to America, v.14, p. 450. At that time he is a described as a farmer, aged 29. However, it does not give a village that he came from.

William's death certificate from Kankakee County, Book 2, p. 17, states he was born 3 Dec 1834 in Kloecke, Germany and died in Sumner Township, Kankakee County, IL 10 Nov 1893. He was buried in the Heusing or Sumner Township Cemetery on 12 Nov 1893. I know little of his life between his arrival in U.S. and his marriage to Amelia. Their first child was born on 26 Feb 1869 and they are listed on the 1870 Census in Sumner Township (Kankakee) IL... Jeanne Roller.

Obituary Amanda Reaman Maass
Services Held Thursday for Mrs. Bertha A. Maass
Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Amanda Maass, 68, who died Monday, Dec. 3 at Hazlecrest General hospital after a short illness were held Thursday afternoon at the Marshall funeral home in Grant Park. The Rev. Alfred Braun conducted the funeral rites and interment was in the Heusing cemetery. Born January 31, 1883 in Germany Mrs. Maass came to this country with her family when she was three months old. She had been a resident in Kankakee county ever since, living in the Grant Park area. She was married in 1902 to Albert Maass, who passed away in August, 1951. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Elsie Henerberg of Beecher, Mrs. Hilda Vining of Kankakee, Mrs. Francis Kile of Chicago Heights and Mrs. Shirley Marcotte of Grant Park; two sons Edward of Momence and Lester of Kankakee; and several grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and one sister. Mrs. Maass was a member of the Saint Peter Evangical and Reformed church of Grant Park and Ladies Guild of the church. -Newspaper Unknown-1951 (Nicole Reaman Duetta)
