EMMA HAASE BUENGER Obituary
Mrs. Emma Buenger, born Haase, wife of Mr. Friedrich Buenger and daughter of the departed Mr. Henry Haase and his still living wife Auguste Haase, born Oltendorf, was born near Denver, Iowa, on November 1, 1873, and received emergency baptism. In spite of this, God allowed her to live. At the age of 14, she was confirmed into the Christian life at the Evangelical Church then at Denver, Iowa.

In the year 1896, she moved here to Tripoli, Iowa, with her parents and siblings, and three years later, on February 23, 1899, she married Mr. Friedrich Buenger, who survives, and to whom she was married through 21 years of peace, suffering and work. The marriage produced two children, Erwin and Elda.

The departed was a hardworking and true helper of her husband, and a Christian mother of her children. Together with her husband, she led them to the fear of God and entrance into the church. With her family, she held diligently to God's word and the sacraments. She suffered from gallstones for about 10 years, and in the last two or three years, the situation worsened; The attacks came and went, so that she always put off a recommended operation. (I don't know what the phrase vor der sie ein geheimes-Granen hatte means. Something about the operation).

Last Saturday night, on the first of November, she celebrated her 46th birthday and worked all day long. That night she had another painful gallstone attack, but it soon went away. On Sunday morning, she got ready with her family and went to church, where she praised God for the new year of life. About noon, she got the chills and went to bed. On Tuesday she had a fever and was restless. The doctors, who came again afternoon, recommended an emergency operation as the only hope to save her life. She agreed and was brought to the hospital on Wednesday morning and operated on that afternoon. She was given little hope after the operation and was very weak. She spent a restless night and was also restless the next day. Everything was done to save her life, but death had picked her out. Life was running against death. - About half an hour before she went home (to heaven), she let her arms sink exhaustedly and at 8:15 at night, on November 6, tired, restfully and peacefully, she gave up the ghost. Just before this, she had received last rites. Weeping, her husband and son, mother, sister, and son-in-law stood by. She lived for 46 years and five days.

Her so early and unexpected departure devastated her deeply shaken husband and her two children; an aged mother, seven sisters and three brothers with their families and many other relatives and friends. God is comforter and advisor to the grieving. (We live for God, and we die for God, Etc).

On Sunday, November 9, she was buried in a Christian and church funeral at our cemetery, after a wake at home and in the St. Peters Lutheran Church. E. Stech, Pastor
