From Obituary of Marie Bahe nee Stolte.
25 Oct 1929 The Nebraska Signal

Marie was the youngest of two children of her parents. Her old brother also came to America and lived in Iowa. Her mother died when Marie was nine years old. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the age of 14.

In 1868, when she was 27 years old Marie married Johann Friederich Bahe in Germany. After they had been married only one year they decided to emigrate to America. They first settled in Arlington Heights, Cook County, IL. In 1885, the family moved to Nebraska. Their first residence in Nebraska was on a farm that was about 2 miles south west of Tobias.

Marie and Johann were the parents of seven children. On 4 Nov 1913 her husband died at the Tabitha Home hospital in Lincoln, NE following and operation for cancer. After her husband's death Mrs. Bahe left the farm and lived with some of her children. For thirteen years she lived by herself at the William Domeier home, occupying a room in their house. The last days of her life were spent with her daughter Sophie, who had moved into town.

During the earlier years of her life Marie experienced much sickness and hardships. In 1918 and again in 1926 she was so ill that few expected her to live. Marie died on Monday at noon 15 Oct 1928 at the home of her daughter Sophie. She was 87 years 3 months and 27 days of age.

The deceased was the oldest member of the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran church, hold membership for forty years. She was a faithful member of the Lutheran Fruenverein and attended her last meeting on 03 Oct 1928. Funeral services were held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sophie Dearking at 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon, Oct 18 and at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran church at 1:30 p.m. by Pastor Rev. J. A. Bahnsen. The pallbearers were her grandsons: John F. Bahe, Joe F. Gewecke, Albert and Edwin Bahe, Harry Gewecke and William Bahe of Byron.

If you have come to my website via Ancestry: Several years ago the genealogy giant Ancestry absorbed the genealogy websites of Rootsweb along with personal databases posted at Rootsweb's WorldConnect Project that included a large database of my own family information. I started using Rootsweb in 2000 and they gave us the capability to add, remove, and update our information at anytime and I used these options frequently to post correct and current data. Presently (2006) I am told by Ancestry that we cannot maintain our own databases, we cannot even remove them. If you find information at Ancestry with my name attached please search my website for current information, the databases posted at Ancestry contain inaccurate information. - Karen Rowe.
