Rodenberg - Grove

The village of Rodenberg was called Rodenberghe in 1320. "Be dem Rodenberghe " in 1518 is the the Middle Low German term for "bei dem roten Berg " which means "near by or at the red hill ". There is a hill very close to Rodenberg which is named Alter (old) Rodenberg and it is supposed that there was an old saxonian refuge there, later with a windmill at the top.

Since 1838 Grove has been a part of Rodenberg. Previously known as Groue (in 1259) this word is related to the Middle Low German word grove or grube in German and means hole or hollow. This village is located close to the "Rodenberger Aue " formerly known as "Karspaue ", the small river which runs from the Suentel Mountain in the south via Rodenberg, Horsten, Rehren and Auhagen to Wunstorf and the River Leine. Presently (2006) I am told by Ancestry that we cannot maintain our own databases, we cannot even remove them.
